The tall pines
"The Tall Pines are equal parts soul and twang, molasses and moonshine, sass and skill. The songs evoke the heyday of the country-soul hybrid without ever sounding unoriginal, a difficult feat.” ~ Meredith Ochs, NPR
The Tall Pines are a shack-shakin’, foot–stompin’ rock & roll duo featuring Connie Lynn Petruk, singing her heart out, playing drums on her alligator skin suitcase, and shaking her tambourine. Her partner Christmas Davis, plays guitar, writes the songs and howls along. The Tall Pines revel in the spirits of the late 1960s and early 1970s Country, Soul, Rockabilly, Garage-Punk, and Swamp-Rock scenes, while creating new music that’s all their own. Their first self-titled album was voted one of the top ten best records of the year by NPR’s Meredith Ochs. They’ve performed live with Country music great Charlie Louvin (RIP), with Alejandro Escovedo, Norah Jones & Puss N’ Boots, Tav Falco’s Panther Burns, and many more great artists. They produce a live music series in New York City called The Tall Pines Revue, and they just finished making a new album “Skeletons of Soul” produced by Joel Hamilton (Tom Waits, The Black Keys, Aaron Neville). The music from “Skeletons of Soul” originally debuted as a live performance, broadcast on Gaylord Fields’ radio show on the legendary indie FM station WFMU. The Tall Pines are on a mission, preaching rock & roll revival, playing road-trip music for everyday life, juke-joint pit stops, and out of body experiences. We hope that you’ll join us for the ride.
